Week 11: The Batman

This week, I'd like to show The Batman titled Glory second place in the Korea Box Office. Released this 2022 year, The Batman is an American superhero film based on the DC Comics character. As you all know, Batman characters first appeared in 1939. And along with Superman, he has established himself as a symbol of superheroes and typical heroes. On the other hand, unlike other heroes, he is considered the origin or root of dark heroes and is gaining popularity for its anti-hero appearance. Batman is characterized by wearing a bat-shaped mask and a black costume. He has a variety of nicknames like his own characteristic, 'The Dark Knight', 'The Caped Crusader', 'The World's Greatest Detective', 'Insider', and etc. The Batman villain is Riddler. Riddler is a psychopath who has genius intelligence and plays around with Batman. He wants to be remembered as a hero who saved Gotham by killing all the corrupt forces in Gotham City and exposing them to the media, but Batman tries to stop him. Since other Batman series in the same world universe, The Batman is an individual film that does not belong to the DC Extended Universe. And also this is more of a mystery that solves the case by solving the problems posed by villains rather than a blockbuster.
This film was directed by Matt Reeves and produced with Dylan Clark. Matt Reeves is well known for directing movies, War for the Planet of the Apes (2017), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014), Let Me In (2010), and Cloverfield (2008). The film stars Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano and Jeffrey Wright.
As of March 14, 2022, the cumulative sales of The Batman are 7,736,885,050 won and cumulative audience of the film are 744,897 at the Korea Movie Net premium data. Considering that Korean Box Office's No. 1 release is In Our Prime, which has been waiting for years, the No. 2 winner, The Batman, is doing a very encouraging job. The fact that it is chasing just below In Our Prime, which received good reviews at last week's sneak preview, shows how popular Batman characters are in Korea. So we expect considerable profits will be made in the Korean film market.
