Nope: The Rare Mystery Movie of 2022

Yes, that is right. Nope is the title of the latest American mystery film to launch in Korea. After random objects fall from the sky resulting in the death of their father, siblings OJ and Emerald Haywood pursue to capture video evidence of an unidentified flying object with the help of tech salesman Angel Torres and documentarian Antlers Holst. The film is directed by Jordan Peele and features hallmark actors Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun. Despite the star-heavy cast, the movie has only accumulated 131,460 cinemagoers in a matter of four days. So far, the cumulative movie sales have been 1,473,963,067 [approx. $1 million].

Of all genres of movies released in 2022 thus far, mystery movies account for only 2.65% [7 movies]. Nope - the rare seventh mystery film of the year. The action genre is a close third with 14.4% of released films [38 movies]. However, when we relate these genres of films with the footfall in the South Korean cinemas, the results are reversed.
